Lighting A Spark: Sharing Inspiring Stories about Land Use across Scotland

The webinars are an opportunity for people living in rural areas across Scotland to come together and share inspiring stories about land use, land use change and delivering benefits to local people as well as national priorities.

A total of 24 projects from across the country have been awarded funding of £110,000 to promote and showcase quality regional produce.

The latest round of the Regional Food Fund (RFF) was launched in April this year to support the development of local food and drink projects with grants of up to £5,000.

From Croft Gate to Croft Plate Event 1 – Growing Fruit and Veg in Lewis and Harris

An opportunity to see the work being done by Lewis and Harris Horticultural Producers – guided tour round the polytunnels and allotments at the Lews Castle College site, followed by a Q&A session with members of the Producers.  There will also be a presentation from Laura McEwan from Horshader Community Development who will talk about community allotments and her work with Hebridean Tree Ark, a native tree nursery .

Work to reform Scotland’s aquaculture regulatory processes is underway with the first meeting of a new strategic advisory group.

Marine Scotland Science have published the Scottish Shellfish Farm Production Survey 2021. The publication details statistics on the employment, production and value of shellfish from Scottish Shellfish Farms. It is structured to follow industry trends within the mussel, Pacific oyster, native oyster, queen scallop and scallop species sectors. Some statistics are given for the 10-year period 2012-2021. 

New funding of £500,000 will support the development of wild salmon conservation measures.

The money will be used for two projects, the National Adult Sampling Plan which provides crucial data on wild salmon stock and  the development of a standardised fisheries management plan template which can be used by all the fisheries management areas in Scotland.
