National Islands Plan Consultation: Isle of Iona

The Scottish Islands Team want to hear your views on the proposed National Islands Plan, as well as the proposed Islands Communities Impact assessments. They are running a series of consultation launch events throughout the Scottish Islands to give communities a chance to participate and find out more. You can also take part in the consultation online here.

Navigating Community Ownership Event

Scottish Land and Estates is holding a practical information event for landowners on routes to community ownership, with Gillespie Macandrew LLP and Knight Frank.

The event includes expert advice on the various community right to buy mechanisms; and consider the opportunities and challenges in dealing with a request from a community for a negotiated sale.  There will be real life examples of community right to buy, including steps to take if you are considering bringing land to the market and plenty of opportunity to question and discuss.

Tutor Steve explains the format of the day....

"The scythe is a very safe tool and I will cover safe use as well as the use of the scythe for small-scale farming, it's recent increase in popularity and hand haymaking.

Day 1 A short introduction and demonstration of peening (reshaping the edge
by hammering it) and then a chance for students to get stuck in

Day 2 Students build on their skills and get the chance to do some peening which greatly adds to their confidence."

Croft Woodland

The Woodland Trust has part funded these courses which are aimed at agricultural producers who are looking to establish small woodlands, new shelterbelts and hedges. Course will impart practical skills as well as info on relevant granting schemes.
