The Scottish Crofting Federation held a two-day diversification conference and workshops in Rothes, Moray, on 5 and 6 October.

Celebrating the Spirit of Crofting was funded by Moray LEADER, National Lottery Awards for All, The Prince's Countryside Fund and the MacRobert Trust. Workshops focused on food and drink and its link to tourism. Speakers included Fergus Ewing MSP, The Isle of Harris Gin Company, Salt Air Charcuterie, Kylesku Hotel, The Spice Route, The River Spey Anglers Association and Dr Lee-Ann Sutherland.

Dr Lee-Ann Sutherland gave a talk on the NEWBIE project and encouraged new entrants to crofting to sign up and enter a competition for a 500 Euro travel grant competition that runs as part of this programme.

The focus of the evening was the inaugral Young Crofter of the Year Award and the Euan MacRae cup for the Best Crofting Newcomer. The Scottish Crofting Federation would like to wish Lynbreck Croft and Donald MacSween huge congratulations on winning the awards for Best Crofting Newcomer (Lynbreck) and Young Crofter of the Year (Donald). Well done!
