A course for those interested in growing undercover. You will learn about:

• Different types of tunnels and how to choose what is best for you and your site
• Bed layout and ground preparation and soil management
• Management of the polytunnel growing environment
• How to make best use of your polytunnel

The course will include: how to plan your polytunnel growing space; how to plan the undercover growing year; the all important aspects of watering, ventilation and temperature control; hints and tips on growing specific vegetable varieties; pest & disease prevention and solutions. Plant propagation, extending the season and overwintering plants.

The training will take place at Turriefield croft in Sandness. Some of the day will be spent outside in practical work and might include handling tools, soil and water. Hands and/or clothing might get dirty, please bring appropriate clothing, footwear and gloves.
