Do you own or work in small woodlands? Are they undermanaged or neglected and would you like to make better use of them?

Do you own or lease ancient woodlands but need more information about managing them?

The Woodland Trust Scotland, in association with the Simwood Project and Forest Enterprise Scotland invite you to a free demonstration event to discuss ancient woodland restoration in practice in Scotland, and to see a wide range of low impact solutions for management.

  • See machinery and equipment for both high and low investment harvesting and extraction; designed to work in woodlands that are small, in need of some management, or hard-to access
  • Talk to experts to find out how to get the most from this equipment
  • Find out more about the Simwood Project, which aims to mobilise woodland owners across Europe promoting collaborative forest management and ensuring sustainable forest practice
  • The Woodland Trust Ancient Woodland Restoration project offers woodland owners support to sustainably manage and restore plantations on ancient woodland sites, alongside existing woodland management objectives. Come along and find out about their offer of free woodland assessments to identify how restoration can complement your ongoing woodland management operations and signpost to potential sources of grant funding

What will the day cover?

The event starts with presentations at Glengarry Community Hall, followed by a tour of demonstrations at Glengarry Community Woodland and on a range of Forestry Commission Scotland sites demonstrating small to medium scale harvesting and extraction equipment working in woodland settings. Demonstrations include small scale harvester and forwarder combinations, and a range of extraction and primary processing equipment. Using both high and low investment options, we will examine the commercial viability of bringing small and sensitive woodlands into management, from the standing timber to product.

Who would find this useful?

This will be particularly relevant to forestry businesses involved in harvesting and extracting in smaller and potentially more sensitive woods, and owners who would like to manage their own woodlands or who would like to know who they could engage to manage it for them.

This event is free to attend and refreshments and lunch will be provided however numbers are limited so early booking is recommended.
