Birnam Highland Games

he Birnam Highland Games are a traditional Scottish Highland Games held amidst stunning Perthshire scenery. The games have been held annually since 1864, and are now held on the last Saturday in August. The games warmly invite you to our next family friendly gathering on Saturday the 25th August 2018. Experience for yourself the fun and culture that has kept the Games so popular for over 150 years.

The 2018 Scottish Rural Parliament will take place in Stranraer in Dumfries and Galloway on 14th– 16th November. If you live in or are passionate about rural areas in Scotland, you can attend to learn and make your voice heard. This year's theme is "Taking Action".

The event brings together people from rural communities with decision-makers, for three days of celebration and exploration. Participants examine a wide-range of issues affecting rural communities and make recommendations for change.

Banchory Beer Festival 2018

The festival runs for 3 days at Deeside Rugby Club pitches, promising a weekend of beer, cider, gin, prosecco, Banchory’ s local rum, street food and live music. There are several bands already lined up, including The Mad Ferret Band and Sea Bass Kids, with more to be announced.

Cowal Highland gathering 2018

2018 will once again bring a huge range of family attractions to the Cowal Highland Gathering, already one of the most spectacular highland games in the world.

With its mix of highland dancing, pipe bands, wrestling, heavy athletics, solo piping, drum majors, ceilidh, children’s entertainment, fun run and local food, there’s something for everyone at the Cowal Highland Gathering.

Day of the Region returns this September with another exciting and varied programme of free events and activities organised by communities across Dumfries & Galloway.

This year’s activities include a fun run, a village tug-of-war, a huge outdoor film screening, an LGBT Pride celebration, community BBQs, circus skills workshops, crafting demonstrations and loads of live music.

The Midwives Scotland Tapestry panel was launched at New Lanark last week, in advance of its final destination at the new Great Tapestry of Scotland location in 2020. As a historic hub of learning and leisure, New Lanark World Heritage Site was delighted to unveil this NEW tapestry panel created by the Royal College of Midwives which is on show, for the first time, as part of the Great Tapestry of Scotland, currently being exhibited at New Lanark until the 1st July 2018 (10am-5pm).  

The third Findhorn Bay Festival was launched today by Festival Director, Kresanna Aigner. From Wednesday 26 September - Monday 1 October, Moray will come alive with a spectacular showcase of arts and cultural events during Scotland’s Year of Young People 2018.

Opera singers will be performing in St Andrews Botanic Garden in June as part of a University project to encourage people to examine their role in protecting the environment.

Performers from the Byre Opera’s production of Handel’s Xerxes will take part in Xerxes in the Garden, a study day which will use the themes of the opera to discuss relationships between humans and the natural environment.

Botanists and conservationists from the University will give presentations on a variety of issues related to environmental topics raised by the opera.

Dornoch FibreFest

This year celebrates the ninth festival of fibre and woolen crafts, with Masterclasses in weaving and botanical printing.  For the first time, the event has also expanded into Dornoch Cathedral where throughout the weekend (after midday on Sunday) there is a Quilt Display by "Off the Wall", Scottish Textile Artists. 

In Focus: Trusts & Foundations (Shetland)

This training event focusses on how to make successful applications to charitable trusts. The trainer will talk you through the process of identifying, researching and applying to charitable trusts.

The event includes a networking lunch and plenty of time for discussion and experience sharing amongst the group of participants.
