A Green Rural Recovery: Sustainable Natural Economies of Canada & Scotland

This 90-min webinar will feature renowned scientists from Scotland and Canada, presenting on greener agricultural systems and examining how new technology is being used to boost the natural economy.

Among the speakers will be Professor Rainer Roehe from Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC), who will talk about his research into the mitigation of methane emissions from beef cattle, and Prof Asim Biswas from the University of Guelph, who will discuss the use of smart farming techniques in Ontario’s grain production.

The Board of Smallholding Scotland is delighted to announce that there will be a live Scottish Smallholder Festival on 23rd October 2021 at Forfar Mart. And following on from the success of the 2020 virtual event, there will be a second virtual event in Saturday 30th October, so even if you can’t get to Forfar, you can still join in.

The Barbour family will introduce their family farm Mains of Fincastle, a 540 Ha beef and sheep hill farm in Perthshire.

Integrating trees network - Burnfoot Farm

Part of the Integrating Trees Network, Andrew Whiteford will introduce Burnfoot Farm, a 3500 acre hill beef and sheep farm, near Sanquhar.

He will talk about his family’s new venture into woodland creation and forest infrastructure, through the Forestry Grant Schemes Sheep and Trees grant. He'll discuss the initial thought process, the decision to plant trees, objectives, challenges and benefits etc.
