About this Event

What are Community Rights to Buy?

Community Rights to Buy are legislative tools that enable Community Bodies to acquire land or buildings. The workshop will cover two of these tools.

Part 2 Community Right to Buy - This allows Community Bodies to apply to register an interest over land or buildings. The effect of an application will prohibit the current owner from selling the property to anyone except the Community Body.

Part 3A Community Right to Buy Abandoned, Neglected or Detrimental Land - This provides an opportunity for Community Bodies to compulsory purchase land or buildings that are abandoned or neglected or where the use or management of the land is causing harm to the environmental wellbeing of the Community.

The Scottish Government fully supports increasing Community ownership of land in Scotland. Over half a million acres of land in Scotland are now in Community ownership, from small Community owned shops in urban centres to large highland estates and islands.

One-to-One Sessions:

One-to-One appointments on the day will also be available to those who wish to discuss specific ideas regarding a Community Right to Buy. Tickets for a one-to-one must be booked separately on the registration page. These sessions are limited to 3 persons per group.
