Connecting communities in rural Lanarkshire

The main aim of the conference is to launch the new Lanarkshire LEADER Programme and advise on the priorities and objectives against which applications for funding will be assessed. The Programme has £4million of support available and runs until 2020.

They event will again be showcasing some of the projects that have been supported through the previous LEADER programme. There will also be three interactive workshops on topics. While details are still being finalised these will include:

Step back in time for 1820’s family fun at New Lanark!

Visitors will be able to ‘step back in time’ and experience what life would have been like for a millworker living and working in the mill village in the 1820’s.

A wide selection of free activities will be available, including period dancing classes, music, crafts, games, storytelling and the Clyde 1 ‘dress up’ Photo booth. Throughout the day visitors will be able to enjoy Living History displays and perhaps even meet Robert Owen himself!

Rural Manifesto Event - Biggar

Take part in one of the Scottish Rural Parliament's Rural Manifesto 2016 events and fill in the blank pages together with all of rural Scotland!

The Manifesto will be a statement of collective ambitions and the actions that are needed to ensure these ambitions are realised for all of our rural communities.

Refreshments will be provided.

Scottish Smallholding and Grower Festival 2016

Now in it's fifth year, the Festival has something for everyone interested in smallholding in Scotland. With shows of sheep, goats, pigs and poultry and waterfowl and cattle breed societies, and with a focus on rare and traditional breeds, it's a great place to meet breeders and make connections. There's also trade stands and craft exhibitors; a Garden, Craft and Food competition; rural skills demonstrations and a programme of fifteen talks to inform, inspire and educate.

A practical informative meeting with James Bretherton, Agscope, looking at the most vital asset on your farm - soil.

Discussing soil analysis, physical soil assessment, what appropriate remedial action to take & answering your soil related questions.

The event includes a Bring Your Own soil & soil analysis hands-on session.

Help dig up Chatelherault's mining past

A NEW project will explore the heritage of the Clyde and Avon Valleys - and they need your help.

Led by CAVLP Heritage, Capturing the Past will look at the unique stories, archaeology and archive evidence associated with the industrial, horticultural and agricultural past of the area.

Organisers are now asking people to join them on January 23 and 24 to take part in an archaeological survey, exploring the remains of Hoolet Row.
