Summary of Project

An organisation is sought to lead an initiative, ideally one easily recognised by residents and also workers across sectors in Scotland north of Perth.

The initiative is to establish the production of brochures on themed tours, with distribution to public racks in Scotland’s Central Belt and elsewhere across the UK, using commercial distribution services and also tourist board ones.

Each brochure is to attract tourists on the route from Edinburgh/Glasgow, through to Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee and back. Each would include options for stopping off en route.

More information

The initiative would involve a group of residents from across the route from north of Perth, including people with additional needs, and people who are economically inactive or working unpaid but not by choice. The group would find themes and places to visit by staging short meetings to spark ideas with local businesses, community and faith groups, and partnerships, including Local Action Groups and Business Improvement Districts. Each brochure should refer to relevant local community and tourist board sources so that local knowledge becomes better known.

Each brochure could cost around £5,000 to produce depending upon the work and people involved, with distribution to racks perhaps also in the region of £5,000, depending upon areas covered. Advertising or sponsorship could cover costs, as tourists may purchase saver travel tickets and accommodation en route including in larger hotel chains. It uses the ScotSectorlink concept.

The initiative could end with a report in Scotland’s existing annually-issued visitor pack to all schools, so leaving a culture of considering visitors. This is because the initiative augments endeavours of industry alliances to raise awareness of career options based on latest trends.
