The search is on for Britain's best high streets and high street heroes.

The Great British High Street Awards 2016 are now open for entries, with categories including 'Village', 'Coastal Community' and 'Small Market Town'.

This year also sees the introduction of the 'Rising Star' award for high streets that are taking their first steps turning around their fortunes.

And there are awards for individuals that go above and beyond for their local high street, including 'Market Champion' and 'Under 25' categories.

High Streets Minister Marcus Jones said:

"With a record number of entries and 200,000 public votes cast, last year’s competition was a massive success. This year’s Great British High Streets Competition is going to be even bigger and better, with new categories and a simplified entry form. I’d urge everyone to get involved to showcase the hard work of your community, in keeping high streets the life and soul of our towns, villages and cities."

Last year, over 230 high streets entered the competition with West Kilbride in Ayrshire winning the 'Village' category.

The deadline for entries is 9 September.
