The Outer Hebrides LEADER 2014-2020 Programme is delighted to announce the launch of their unique fund, specifically designed to support young people.

The fund is being delivered in partnership with Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and the Bridge Community Centre.

The LEADER Youth Fund is available to provide funding to projects aimed at supporting young people and youth initiatives. What is unique about this fund is that all decisions on applications are fundamentally decided upon by young people, through LEADER’s newly established Youth Local Action Group (Youth LAG).

The Youth LAG, who will be responsible for allocating the £100,000 Youth Fund, is a group of young people aged between 14 – 25 years. They were recruited through an open call for volunteers, and spaces are still available to be on the Youth LAG, should you be interested in being part of this exciting opportunity.

To apply to the Youth Fund projects must directly benefit young people and youth initiatives, demonstrating innovative solutions to support community benefit.  Funding is available for up to 90% of total eligible project costs with a minimum grant requirement of £1,000. LEADER can support both capital and revenue projects including new products and services, events, initiatives and creating new networking opportunities.

The Youth LAG will be formally launching their new fund in the New Year, which will also coincides with Scotland’s Year of Young People, with events taking place throughout the Islands so prospective applicants can meet the Youth LAG and also find out more about the fund.

The following events will take place:

  • Harris – Friday 12 January, 12.30pm, Sir E Scott School
  • Barra – Tuesday 16 January, 4 – 6pm, Castlebay School
  • Stornoway – Friday 19 January, 2pm, Caladh Inn
  • Benbecula – Monday 22 January, 5.30pm, Youth Café, An Caladh, East Camp

All are welcome. And refreshments will be provided.

Although launch events are not taking place until January the fund is now officially open and accepting enquiries, with the closing date for application submissions being Wednesday 7 March 2018.

Prospective applicants should initially submit an expression of interest through the LEADER website at http://www.outerhebridesleader.co.uk/, where further information can also be found. A LEADER officer will then contact you to discuss your proposal, its eligibility and the next steps.  If you are interested in being part of the Youth LAG call 01851 600 501 or email outerhebridesleader@cne-siar.gov.uk.
