Operations Manager

Minimum 30 hours per week, permanent contract.

Salary £30,000 - £32,000 pro rata; according to experience.

The operations of the Foundation and subsidiaries focus on managing 7,000ha of community land, including operating a 230kWh Hydro-Electric scheme and 11kV distribution network, a bunkhouse, Ranger services (including bike hire and campsite), a shop, housing, property rental, water, sewerage, deer management and land management. The current operations team comprises of Office Manager, Ranger, Stalker, Hydro Maintenance Manager, part time Ghillies, Bunkhouse Warden, Visitor liaison/Shop Assistant and various sub-contractors. A Butcher is also being recruited. The successful candidate will work in conjunction with part-time Finance and Development Managers.

The post is located on the Knoydart Peninsula in the West Highlands of Scotland. Knoydart is a remote peninsula that is, however, regularly connected to the town of Mallaig by a ferry service. Residency on the Peninsula, or within daily commuting distance will be required. The post will particularly suit an applicant who has an open, hands on, participative, problem-solving, capacity building and “can do” management style.

Regional Support Officer Central Region - Scottish Land and Estates are looking to recruit two Regional Support Officers, one to cover their Central region and one to cover their Highland region. You will be based either at home or in the offices of an SLE member in the region, and will work with the regional chair, regional committee and our  Senior Management Team and HQ staff to deliver membership activity at a regional level, including event organisation and political engagement. This role will suit a self starter who is an excellent communicator with a good knowledge of rural issues.   

 
Starting salary is £26,000-£30,000 depending on experience (pro rata for 21 hours per week).

Area manager - Caithness and Sutherland

Location: Thurso

Salary: £65,260 - £75,258 per annum, excellent benefits package

Highlands and Islands Enterprise have an opportunity for a forward thinking, dynamic and highly experienced individual to join HIE as Area Manager to lead their Caithness and Sutherland area team.

Reporting to the Director of Business and Sector Development, in this key role you will ensure the effective delivery of front line HIE services to customers, develop local partnerships with stakeholders, and provide strategic economic leadership in the Caithness and Sutherland region.

To be credible in this role you will bring a proven track record at senior management level in business development, organisational change and people management.

You will also be a confident communicator, presenter and strategic thinker with the ability to lead senior management teams and to bring fresh ideas into established working relationships and approaches.

You will also have strong negotiating skills and the ability to influence a wide range of stakeholders.

Demonstrable experience in the management of complex and significant budgets using your extensive analyticlal skills is also essential for this role.

In-depth knowledge of the Caithness and Sutherland area and economy, as well as an understanding of the key drivers relating to private sector business and international trade is desirable.

Finance Manager, Rural Payments and Inspections Directorate

37 hours per week, permanent contract. Salary £28,891 - £33,094

The Scottish Government are currently seeking applications for two Finance Managers within the Rural Payments and Inspections Directorate (RPID) Finance Team within the Directorate for Agriculture and Rural Economy (ARE) based in Edinburgh. These are permanent and pensionable appointments and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. Candidates with a disability who meet the essential criteria below will be invited to the assessments.

ARE is responsible for delivering over £650m annually in rural payments across Scotland, including supporting the IT systems to deliver these, and reporting to the European Commission. These are challenging posts where you will be supporting, managing and monitoring complex financial processes.

Due to the training requirements for the role, for the first six months the role will be based in Saughton House, Edinburgh. After this time, subject to satisfactory progress of the post holder, consideration will be given to the role transferring to any ARE location. Please note that you should be prepared to travel regularly and work full days in Edinburgh (SH) if based in another office.
