Development Officer - Marr Area Partnership (MAP)

Project Coordinator, RHET Lothian

RHET Lothian seek an enthusiastic, organised and flexible individual with a passion for the countryside to work from home on a self-employed basis. They will continue the excellent work currently being undertaken with the support from the local committee, to help young people learn about the countryside, food, farming and their natural heritage.

The contract is for up to 960 hours for a full academic year, starting in August 2019. The role is seasonably variable due to school demand, with the majority of hours within term time. You will organise farm visits and classroom talks for school groups in the West Lothian, Midtlothian, Edinburgh City and East Lothian areas, encouraging them to foster an understanding of rural life, Scottish farming today and opportunities for careers in the countryside and agricultural sector.

Project Worker – North Team - Outside the Boc (Maternity Cover from early September)

Operations Officer - Scottish Natural Heritage

Location: Bowmore however all Argyll offices will be considered

This Area Officer post affords a varied and exciting workload based in the Argyll and Outer Hebrides area. Working within the operations team, you will deliver work on agreed projects and casework including that relating to development, statutory designated site consultations, wildlife management and the Agri-Environment and Climate Scheme (AECS). The role will evolve to ensure consistent delivery of the organisation’s business plan. You will be a good team player, willing to travel across the Unit as required and have a good knowledge of the regions natural heritage and management influences.

Policy Manager - NFU Scotland

Representing some 8,500 farmers and other rural businesses across the country, NFU Scotland’s mission is to promote and protect the interests of its members by influencing government and the supply chain to secure a sustainable future for Scottish agriculture. They are recruiting for a person to join their widely respected Policy Team to take the lead on environment regulations.

The ideal candidate will be someone who has knowledge of the environment issues that affect farmers and crofters. You must have the ability to work alongside colleagues on key issues for the agriculture sector, advising on appropriate policy lines, providing technical guidance and taking the lead on projects and initiatives. You need to be comfortable dealing with a number of different issues at one time and be able to articulate them clearly and in a convincing manner to a wide variety of audiences. NFU Scotland want someone with a can-do attitude. 

You will be based in NFUS Scotland Head Office in Ingliston (near Edinburgh Airport), with regular travel throughout Scotland and the UK and occasionally beyond.

Administrative Officer - Scottish Government

The Scottish Government are currently seeking applications for an Administrative Officer within the ARE: Agricultural Policy Delivery (RPID) based in Longman House, Inverness. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range.

Inverness Area Office is one of a network of 16 local Area Offices situated throughout Scotland that perform a key role in the work of Scottish Government Rural Payments and Inspections Division (SGRPID), within the Agricultural and Rural Economy Directorate and a main point of contact for farmers, crofters and the rural community, delivering grants, subsidies and other Government policies to the rural community.

The post is a key role for local delivery and is part of our busy front office team through accurate administration and inspection of subsidy claims, which result in £700 million of direct aid to the Scottish rural economy. You can expect to spend a lot of time on the phone or at their front counter helping farmers and crofters with questions about their applications or claims as they are the main point of contact for Scottish Government rural policies. When not dealing with customers you will be processing the applications and claims that their customers have submitted to you.

Land Use and Climate Change Policy Support Officer - Scottish Forestry

  • Salary: £34,645 - £37,333
  • Location: Edinburgh
  • Hours: 37 per week

Scottish Forestry are a recently formed agency within the Scottish Government’s Environment and Forestry Directorate and they have responsibility for forestry policy, support and regulation.

Scottish Forestry develops and delivers policies to address the Government’s priorities and directly advises Scottish ministers on matters relating to forestry.They manage forestry regulations and grants, support the development of the forestry industry and woodland expansion, as well as seek to enhance the social and environmental benefits of forestry.

This role sits within the Sustainable Forest Management Team and reports directly to the Land Use and Climate Change Policy Advisor, focusing on climate change mitigation and adaptation, integration of land uses, soils and freshwater.

You will be based in Edinburgh and work alongside colleagues with policy responsibility for forest biodiversity, landscape, historic environment. The team also has responsibility for co-ordinating forestry research needs and leads on the development of the UK Forestry Standard.
