Scottish Land Festival 2015

The Young Crofters, ‘Crofting’s New Voices’ present their hopes for the future of crofting and talk to the crofting community on Skye about how they can be part of that vision. Break-out sessions where young and older will network, swap information and skills and set up mentoring relationships.

The Young Crofters is a recently established group set up within the Scottish Crofting Federation. Their aim is to share their ambitions of a new generation from the land with you.The fantastic short film ‘Crofting’s New Voices’ will be screened. It was filmed during the SCF Young Crofters 20:20 Gathering in Assynt, the northern Highlands in March 2015, and shows how young crofters are organising for change. These young crofters value their connections with the land; they want to work the land and make their homes there. But against them stands the market economy: unaffordable land and housing and a lack of employment opportunities in the rural communities they love. Meet the new generation of young crofters to hear about what they hope to achieve and how you can help.

The event is free but please book your place by emailing shaz@waternish.plus.com.
