This learning event is an opportunity for anyone working to improve health and wellbeing for individuals, communities and at a population level. It will enable you to explore how community-led health is part of your work in tackling inequalities.

We know the impact health inequalities have across Scotland, and how these avoidable differences impact health outcomes between different people and population groups.

Community-led health helps to tackle these inequalities by bringing people together in their communities and supporting them to take action on what’s important to them – leading to increased health, wellbeing and influence through collective action.

Paul Johnston, Chief Executive, Public Health Scotland will set the tone for this event focusing on Public Health Scotland’s clear commitment to improving life expectancy and reducing health inequalities for communities in Scotland.

This learning event is a collaboration between CHEX and Public Health Scotland. This interactive and participative session will:

  1. Introduce community-led health and explore how the social model of health supports Scotland's ambitions to reduce health inequalities – and where this fits in the current policy context.
  2. Explore the community development value base and principles that underpin this approach.
  3. Help you think about the opportunities to deliver this approach in your work.
  4. Share the key resources and tools you need to take the next step.

Who is this event for?

This session is aimed at anyone whose work contributes to improving public health or community health and wellbeing and is looking to explore how community-led approaches could become part of their work tackling health inequalities.

You might work in this way already and are looking to develop your skills, or be looking to build the foundations of your knowledge.

You’ll leave this event with a clear understanding of community-led health, and the knowledge and resources you need to apply this to your work.
