SCVO Scottish Charity Awards open
Alan Robertson

Nominations are open for this years SCVO Scottish Charity Awards, which take place on Thursday 20th June at the Radisson Blu in Glasgow.

The SCVO Scottish Charity Awards are unique because, as Scotland’s national membership body for the voluntary sector, they have a unique footprint and position in the sector. SCVO support and showcase the work of the voluntary sector and champion voluntary organisations and support their work.

The voluntary sector in Scotland is diverse, vibrant and its work spans many different areas. SCVO want the Scottish Charity Awards to be a celebration of the sector’s vibrancy and diversity and to make sure that as wide a range of organisations and people as possible are represented at the awards.

There are ten award categories at the Scottish Charity Awards. Six recognise the achievements of organisations, and three recognise individuals. The tenth award, People’s Choice, is chosen by a public vote from the finalists in the other nine categories.

Anna Fowlie, SCVO Chief Executive said:

“At SCVO we know that every day, voluntary organisations across the country are making an incredible impact in their communities. We would love to see as wide a range of organisations as possible represented in the awards to have your achievements recognised”.

SCVO have made some changes to this years awards based on feedback from stakeholders. This includes:

  • Simplified the application process and offering different ways to apply including by submitting a video or audio recording
  • Chosen award categories that are relevant to a wide range of voluntary organisations small and large across all areas of the country and reflecting the external environment and the nuts and bolts of running an effective voluntary organisation
  • Made the main focus of the awards on the impact charities have had and the difference that they have made to people and places
  • Made changes to the judging panel to make sure that judges are more representative of the sector, including people from the SCVO membership community
  • Introduced drop-in sessions before the awards application deadline to support organisations to apply

Alex Thomson, SCVO Events Manager said

“We would like to receive an application from you if you or your organisation has had a particularly special year. Perhaps you’ve secured a campaign victory, responded to a new need in your community, or overcome unusually challenging circumstances.

You don't have to be a large charity or an SCVO member to apply. We'd love to hear about the brilliant work going on in voluntary organisations of all shapes and sizes from across Scotland”

The closing date for applications is the 15 March 2024 (12 noon).
