Rural Innovation Support Service Update

RISS
James Rose

The Rural Innovation Support Service (RISS) have made an immediate impact since their inception earlier this year, and now have 15 groups forming. A large group of hill sheep farmers is looking at possible ways to increase their profitability in these difficult times; eight farmers in Lockerbie and a veterinary consultant are exploring sustainable solutions to liver fluke; a dairy workers co-op is forming in the South West and other groups are tackling midges, meat processing and oat supply chain issues.

The Scottish Rural Network were down at Kirvennie Farm to make a film on 23 April about the exciting work they are carrying out to look at innovative ways to speed up the breeding process. The film will be ready for release some time in May, so stay tuned to SRN channels!

The Rural Innovation Support Service helps you form a group to explore ideas and solutions. You will leave with a robust project plan that you can use to get funding or just to get going.
