The Wolfson Foundation have announced that their ‘Funding for Places’ grants will be open from 20 November - 5 January (for decisions in June). The programme provides support for places and are for capital initiatives, i.e. buildings (new build or refurbishment) and equipment.

The Wolfson Foundation is an independent grant-making charity, based in central London but funding across the UK.

Around 95% of their funding is in the UK with most of their grants allocated for capital infrastructure - buildings (new build and refurbishments) and equipment.  This includes community hubs and the organisations that run them and which can provide a range of local services.

The Wolfson Foundation often make grants to act as a catalyst to generate more support and help to attract funding to areas that may otherwise be under-resourced and are keen to encourage applications from parts of the UK where they have traditionally received fewer applications.

The Foundation have provided funding to a range of Scottish organisations, including:

  • Mikeysline - Purchase and refurbishment of vehicle to establish a mobile mental health service supporting remote communities in the North of Scotland (£47,100)
  • John O'Groats Mill Trust - Restoration and interpretation of John O’ Groats Mill (£50,000)
  • Age Scotland Orkney - Refurbishment to create community hub providing activities for older people in the Orkney Islands (£45,000)
  • Garadh A Bhagh A Tuath - Gàradh a' Bhàgh a' Tuath [SCIO] (garadh.co.uk) - Installation of solar array and battery storage system (£49,800), a horticultural-based project offering a range of facilities to the community of the Island of Barra and its neighbouring Islands.
