The Scottish Rural and Island Transport Community (SRITC) are hosting a conference on September the 14th and 15th to address the immediate challenges facing the users and operators of Scotland’s rural and islands transport services.

SRITC is at the forefront of leading the work to find these solutions. Working across Scotland, they support a community of stakeholders who are striving to deliver a better transport future for the people who live, work, and visit Scotland’s rural and island communities.

The conference will take place in Boat of Garten in the Cairngorms and is currently the only conference of its kind which seeks to discuss Scotland’s rural transportation challenges and provide a platform to share concerns, ideas, and solutions.

The Gathering is open to any individual or company who has an interest in rural transport and is not limited to community groups.  Fully funded (free) tickets are available on request to the organisers for individuals or members of community groups

The organisation’s Founder, Jenny Milne states:

“At SRITC we are striving to support our members to make the transition to more sustainable modes of transport. The Gathering 2022 offers rural communities, policy makers and businesses who are often disconnected and isolated from each other, the opportunity to come together for support and to build the collaborations that are badly needed to steer us through these challenging times. We have many of the solutions already: we just need to ensure they are being supported and implemented”.

Now in its 5th year, this year’s event will take place during a “perfect storm” of record high fuel prices, strikes, failing ferries and reduced bus service timetables, all of which are damaging the economic and social fabric of rural and island communities. For these reasons, the need to gather and address these issues has never been more urgent”.

Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a range of formal and informal outdoor and indoor events designed to maximise engagement and creative thinking.

Those involved in organising the event are determined to ensure it is a sustainable and inclusive event that leads to tackling complex, challenging issues quickly, and creatively.
