Being engaged in climate action can carry an emotional toll. We’re exposed to disturbing and disheartening information, face frustrating obstacles, and will be acutely aware of what’s at stake.

How can we protect ourselves from becoming overly sunk, overwhelmed, disillusioned or burnt out? What helps us face the mess we’re in, find our inspiration and keep showing up to play our part?

Following our previous Active Hope introductory webinar with Chris Johnstone (rewatch here), we are offering a practice session using ‘honouring our pain’, 'eco-anxity relief' and meditation practices. Those practices are based on the teaching of Chris Johnstone and on the Work that reconnects network.

This session will be an opportunity to practice this approach designed to nourish and support our engagement when in difficult conditions.

We will do some practices and meditations that can relieve eco-anxiety, and strengthen mutual support and heartfelt solidarity.

Active hope is different from being hopeful; it is an energy of engagement that can happen through us, through our actions and choices and continued determination to make a difference.

This approach has been authored by Chris Johnstone and Joanna Macy, authors of 'Active Hope: how to face the mess we’re in with unexpected resilience and creative power'. Chris is known internationally for his writings and online training, his work explores what helps us face disturbing situations and respond in ways that contribute to positive change. He has websites at https://www.activehope.info and https://chrisjohnstone.info He also presents a free online course in Active Hope at https://activehope.training
