What is it?

AI UK is the national showcase of the UK’s data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence ecosystem.

We will take you ‘under the hood’ of AI to show you how it works, highlight some areas where it can be used to reach the Islands net zero ambitions and show you some examples of what has been achieved in similar contexts.

The event will include workshops for those on the more technical side as well as general users of AI.

There will also be a chance to find out more about the Techscaler programme, delivered by CodeBase, which offers tailored support for everyone in Scotland who wants to build a startup, whether they are considering a career in startups or are developing, building and scaling an idea.

AI UK is an accessible and informative event, all levels of knowledge on AI are welcome.

What can I expect?

The event has a number of parts:

  • An introduction to Artificial Intelligence: will explain the landscape of AI in plain language and provide a non-technical explanation of some common machine learning methods and applications.
  • Concurrent sessions
Tutorial: ‘ML Developer 101’ will guide the more technically minded through the application of machine learning with basic data structuring, processing, visualisation methods and tools that either can be used in application or to help participants understand the type of skills that might be employed in more advanced applications.

AI Brainstorm Battle: ‘Applications of AI in Island Communities and Industries’ will bring together potential non-technical users of AI in a guided series of exercises to generate a set of current issues and ideas of where machine learning can assist in an Island context.

  • An introduction to Techscaler: Mark Sutherland, Head of Highlands & Islands Regional Engagement will give an introduction to Techscaler. This Scottish Government funded programme, delivered by CodeBase, offers tailored support for everyone in Scotland who wants to build a startup, whether they are considering a career in startups or are developing, building and scaling an idea.
