West Kilbride has won the Village category in this year's Great British High Street Awards.

Organisers of the awards said the Ayrshire village "showed that big does not mean better. In a tough category West Kilbride shone out for transforming itself as a craft village, for supporting local artists and for turning around the village with creativity and enthusiasm".

West Kilbride Craft Town Scotland received funding from the 2008-13 Ayrshire LEADER programme. The Ayrshire LEADER Local Action Group (LAG) congratulated West Kilbride for winning the Great British High Street – Best Village Award.

Chris Savage, Chair of the LAG, said:

"The Local Action Group were delighted to hear the news that West Kilbride, here in Ayrshire has won the Village award. West Kilbride Craft Town is a unique and creative place that has put the village on the map for businesses and tourists. We wish them ongoing success in 2016."
