Rural Youth Action Network at Pride Youth Games

Kai from the Rural Youth Action Network (RYAN) reflects on the experience of being part of RYAN and belonging to a rural network that reflects the complexities of rural communities.

Kai from the Rural Youth Action Network (RYAN) hosted the RYAN stall, at the Pride Youth Games (PYG) held in Largs, consulting with rural and island young people and raising awareness of the network.

PYG is a yearly weekend residential for 16-25 year old lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, non-binary, queer and other diversely identifying young people.

The weekend includes taster sessions of activities provided by different sports organisations and groups. PYG rotates between Scotland, Wales, and England and is held in a different place each year. The events occur in partnership with Pride Sports and Pride Sports Cymru.

PYG provides a space to meet and get to know other young people from across the UK, and is a chance to try out different sports and activities in a safe, inclusive, and validating environment. It also offers an opportunity to explore wellbeing for LGBTIQ+ young people. The weekend is entirely FREE and available for all young LGBTIQ+ people living in the UK, bringing people together from Scotland, England, and Wales.

Kai has brilliantly spoken to camera talking about the experience of being part of RYAN and belonging to a rural network that reflects the complexities of rural communities (video  above).

RYAN provides opportunities for young people from Scotland’s rural communities to come together and share their experiences, have their voices heard, shape decision-making about issues that impact their lives and ensure that Government plans consider their interests and priorities. This project is a partnership between Youth Scotland and Scottish Rural Action, funded by Scottish Government and the Scottish Rural Network
