RSPB Scotland have announced the shortlist for their Nature of Scotland Awards 2017.

The awards find and celebrate the most dedicated and passionate people working to protect Scotland's internationally renowned wildlife and habitats.

Rural Economy Secretary Fergus Ewing has announced plans to increase the use of local food and drink in schools, hospitals and other public sector organisations.

Funding of £1.2 million will expand the current Food for Life programme, to increase the amount of locally-sourced and produced food in Scottish schools. And a further £100,000 will deliver a new Supplier Development Programme to help small and medium-sized food and drink businesses compete for public sector food contracts.

In our Tea Gardens of Scotland film you can learn how a group of nine tea growers in Angus, Perthshire and Fife are working together to grow tea from seed. The cooperation project was funded by Angus LEADER, Rural Perth & Kinross LEADER and Fife LEADER.

The next application deadline for the Food Processing, Marketing and Cooperation scheme is 19 November 2017.

The Food Processing, Marketing and Cooperation scheme is part of the Scottish Rural Development Programme (SRDP).

A series of films from the Scottish Rural Network (SRN) will be released over the Autumn to publicise the positive impact and opportunities created by the Scottish Rural Development Programme (SRDP).

The “SRDP on Film” season will highlight a range of projects funded under the SRDP in up to twenty short films set to be released every Thursday on the SRN website and social media channels.

Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight is asking people to change one thing and tell them about it on social media.

The nationwide event launched on 2 September and will run until 17 September. Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight is profiling a range of different food themes and asking everyone -- whatever their connection to the food and drink industry -- to change one thing and tell them about it using the #onethingfortnight hashtag.

Bowhouse Food Market

Bowhouse is a place for food; a vital link in the food supply chain from field to fork. Located in St Monans in the East Neuk of Fife, it offers a collection of makers’ units and a destination for producers and consumers interested in the best Scottish food and produce.

The next Bowhouse Food Weekend will be held on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 September 2017 between 10am and 4pm. A harvest theme will be added to this market.

The Royal Highland Education Trust (RHET) is one of the charities to benefit from a recent tractor run fundraiser.

The tractor run was organised by NFU Scotland's Highland Perthshire branch and raised thousands of pounds for local charities, including RHET.

A cheque for £1,122 was presented to Alix Ritchie, RHET Project Co-ordinator for Perth & Kinross at the Aberfeldy Show.

Alix said:

The world’s first 100% community-owned distillery, GlenWyvis, welcomed almost 150 new members on the day of the launch. The distillery already has some 2,600 original members who invested in the 2016 share offer and the new share offer was designed to capitalise on continued interest by opening the door to new members.  A total of over £75,000 was raised in the first 24 hours.
