Farmers and land managers in the central belt, who are thinking of planting trees but don’t know where to begin, are now being offered free woodland assessments from Scottish Forestry.
The offer applies to farmers in the central belt from Ayrshire, Inverclyde, Dunbartonshire right across from the west to Fife and the Lothians in the east.

First Minister John Swinney has announced a £5 million package for Scotland’s island communities.
The funding package will support Island communities to tackle local issues and invest in new opportunities that will help deliver a more prosperous future. This funding reflects the First Minister’s four priorities of eradicating child poverty, growing Scotland’s economy, investing in green energy and infrastructure and improving public services.

Change Mental Health (CMH) has free funded mental health training places for rural individuals and rural small businesses.
The Rural Connections training aims to support businesses to implement and strengthen workplace wellbeing policies and activities.
CMH are working in partnership with Mental Health UK and Neptune Energy to deliver the Rural Connections project.

The latest Knowledge Transfer Innovation Fund (KITF) opens today (Wednesday 22 May).
KTIF supports projects that help farmers and crofters to acquire new skills and share learning across the agricultural sector. Successful projects will receive grants of up to £200,000 to help farmers develop their skills and improve the competitiveness and sustainability of their businesses.
