Rural-Urban Partnerships

This webinar will explore how stronger rural-urban partnerships can reinforce resilience in the face of future shocks and build a sustainable future. The three sessions will discuss:

SCOTO is a network of community tourism enterprises located throughout Scotland and led by a team of dynamic individuals who each have extensive and varied experience in community tourism. 

Over the last year the Scottish Rural Network and the Improvement Service have been working in partnership to help build the capacity of community councils across rural and island Scotland.

The Gathering

The countdown to The Gathering 2023 has officially started, the events planned over 2 days, Wednesday 10th May & Thursday 11th May, include trips to local transport operators and community hubs on the 10th and the plenary session on the 11th.

Projects returning former industrial or derelict sites to community use will be more likely to be approved following the introduction of long term planning reforms.

Scotland has achieved its highest ever reported score in an international survey which asks 60,000 adults from 20 countries what their perceptions are of 60 nations.

The Nation Brands Index (NBI) 2022 survey scores and ranks countries across six dimensions including Culture, Tourism, Governance, Immigration and Investment, Exports, and People.

Hospitality businesses will be able to place tables and chairs on the pavement outside their premises without submitting a planning application under measures expected to come into force at the end of next month.

This workshop is aimed at managers and multipliers from all over the world who hold positions of responsibility in the field of youth work or vocational training in rural and island areas.

Scottish Island Futures 2050 and Beyond Workshop

This streamed session will focus on island governance. What is the nature of the relationship between islands and their metropoles i.e. Edinburgh and London. Are there better models of governance? Is island autonomy a goal to be strived for?
