In the wake of a three-decade career dedicated to the front lines of conservation, Sacha Dench embarks on a soul-stirring journey that bridges the gap between scientific data and human emotion. A Bag of Leaves follows the world-record-breaking freediver and adventurer as she traverses landscapes to protect endangered species, moving from the depths of the ocean to the heights of the Arctic sky. Through the lens of filmmakers Soline Baudet and Abinaya Rajendran, the film captures Sacha’s tireless efforts to rally policymakers and industries, proving that the survival of migratory species is inextricably linked to our own.

The film highlights the critical state of biodiversity in the United Kingdom, focusing on the decline of iconic species such as the Bewick’s swan. By documenting Sacha’s 7,000 km paramotor flight and her work with Conservation Without Borders, the narrative underscores a vital truth: conservation is not just about isolated wilderness, but about protecting the migratory corridors and habitats that crisscross our own backyards. It serves as a clarion call for a unified British approach to ecological restoration.

Sacha’s story demonstrates how collective, localised efforts can drive systemic change. When communities protect their local ecosystems, we contribute to a global safety net for our planet’s future.

Ticket donations will help fund an in-person screening in Scotland with Sacha later this year, and the team appreciates every contribution.
