Attend for a day of discussions, networking, and collaboration in the heart of Edinburgh’s old town!

This event will bring together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to explore opportunities for cooperation across the themes of the project.

This is a fantastic opportunity to connect with participants who are committed to enhancing social and economic cooperation between Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland.

The event is a hybrid event and is open to online or in-person participation.

09:30 – 10:15 – Registration and Networking

10:15 – 11:00 – Opening session speeches and presentations from:

  • Angus Robertson MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Constitution, External Affairs and Culture (video address)
  • Jerry O’Donovan, Consul General of Ireland in Edinburgh
  • Donna MacKinnon, Deputy Director Europe Division, Scottish Government
  • DISC partners in Wales and Northern Ireland

11:00 – 11:30 – Networking & Refreshment break

11:30 – 12:30 “DISC project journey: Lessons from Inception, MidTerm Insights, and Future Vision”. This Session will be chaired by Dr Irene McMaster (University of Strathclyde) with participation from Enda Hogan (Southern Regional Assembly) and Jennifer Donnellan and Gordon Hector (Upstream research)

12:30 – 14:00 – Networking buffet-style lunch

14:00 – 15:30 – Parallel workshops

1. Innovation through health and life sciences – Chaired by Moira Mackenzie, Digital Health and Care Innovation Centre (DHI). This will focus on the Life Sciences sub-sector of Digital Health, and prior activity progressing within the spectrum of this space.

2. Sustainable blue economy – Chaired by Dr Denise Risch, Scottish Association for Marine Science, Dr James Thorburn, Napier University and Prof Colin Adams, University of Glasgow. This will spotlight Scottish projects within the theme of sustainable blue economy with exploration on challenges and future opportunities.

3. Communities and Culture – ‘Colour adorns our lives: Highlighting cultural exchange and impact through poetry‘. A participatory workshop with Scotland’s National Poet, Professor Peter Mackay and Dr Samuel Tongue from the Scottish Poetry Library

15:30 – 16:00 – Wrap up session and networking.
