Forest Research & RSFS: Forest pests and diseases, and biosecurity

This training day offers an opportunity to deepen your understanding of forest pests and diseases that impact our woodland ecosystems.

Date and time: to

Location: Forest Research Northern Research Station Roslin Midlothian EH25 9SY

Organisation: Royal Scottish Forestry Society

As climate change and global trade increase, recognising threats to tree health have never been more important for forestry professionals.

The day combines expert presentations with hands-on learning experiences. In the morning, Forest Research pathologists and entomologists will deliver informative talks covering the identification and biology of a range of current threats, accompanied by a deeper dive into several case studies.

The afternoon will feature indoor and outdoor practical sessions where participants will get experience with some of the fundamental field-based and lab-based methods used to identify and assess pests and pathogens, and think about resultant biosecurity issues.

Whether you work in woodland management, conservation, or arboriculture, this training will enhance your ability to spot early warning signs of pest and disease issues and show you how to communicate findings via FR’s online reporting tool Tree Alert.
