Walking and talking trees: Benefiting biodiversity and your business

Walking and talking trees: Benefiting biodiversity and your business with Katharine and David Lowrie

Date and time: to

Location: Auchgoyle Farm, Tighnabruaich, Argyll, PA21 2BS

Organisation: Integrating Trees Network

Join Integrating Trees Network with Katharine and David as they introduce you to their family’s 80 acre farm of meadows, wetlands and woodlands.

You’ll see, hear and discuss how they are transforming their farm to dramatically increase biodiversity by planting new native broadleaves on a third of their land. This is improving connectivity across ancient and semi natural woodlands and promoting natural regen, creating a mosaic of woodlands that complement numerous habitats including scrub, wetland, ponds, species rich meadows and hedgerows.

The farm also has its own sawmill, utilising local timber for on-site building projects and to supply the farms biomass heating system, future proofing their business as well as the biodiversity. We’ll look at their initial thought process, the decision to plant trees, their objectives, the challenges they’ve faced and benefits they’re seeing.

YOu’ll also hear from a Scottish Forestry speaker who will answer your questions on funding and the first steps to woodland creation.
