Agritourism businesses encouraged to apply for AIS funding

A fresh round of support is now open for agritourism businesses, with the Agritourism Investment Scheme (AIS) inviting applications for capital funding to help farms and crofts diversify, grow and strengthen Scotland’s rural economy.

The Scottish Government’s Agritourism Investment Scheme (AIS) is now open for applications, offering capital grants to help farms, crofts and estates develop high‑quality agritourism experiences.

The scheme supports projects that boost business resilience, enhance visitor experiences and contribute to the long‑term sustainability of Scottish agriculture.

With a £1 million budget available in the current window, AIS provides up to 40% support for eligible capital investments, helping businesses take forward new ideas—from improving visitor facilities to developing food and drink experiences or creating innovative on‑farm attractions.

What the scheme aims to achieve?

AIS is designed to strengthen Scotland’s growing agritourism sector by supporting projects that:

  • Increase the number of farms and crofts offering agritourism experiences
  • Develop food, drink and farm‑based visitor activities
  • Encourage innovation and new products
  • Build a skilled and diverse rural workforce
  • Promote responsible, high‑quality and memorable visitor experiences
  • Help businesses become “Travel Trade Ready” and attract international visitors
  • Support rural communities and celebrate local heritage

Projects that deliver strongly against these objectives will be prioritised during assessment.

Who can apply?

Eligible applicants include agritourism businesses operating on a working farm, croft or estate that produces food or wool, and which are registered with the Scottish Government’s Rural Payments and Inspections Division. Businesses offering food and drink experiences using their own produce are also encouraged to apply.

Apply now!

AIS is a competitive scheme, and demand is expected to be high. With only one application permitted per business and a fixed budget, early, well‑prepared submissions stand the best chance of success. The scheme supports a wide range of capital investments, and applicants can include multiple items within a single application.

Application deadline.

The current application window is open until midnight on 13 March 2026. All applications must be submitted by email using the official AIS application form.
