Care-experienced young people launch Creative Festival in Inverness

Celebration of creative care-experienced young Scots

Creative care -experienced young Scots

Creativity and Care are inviting audiences to join them at WASPS Creative Academy in Inverness on the 24th May for a day-long celebration of a three-year project that has supported creative projects for care-experienced young people across Scotland.

On display will be an exhibition of wide range of creative projects including writing, photography, pottery, glasswork, videos and collages. Two of the young people who have worked with Creativity & Care will be leading workshops on the day, and project partner Abriachan Forest Trust will be providing a workshop for families.

There will be live poetry readings, and audiences will also be treated to the premiere viewing of a new documentary ‘The Art of Becoming’, which shares the words and thoughts of the participants set to the glorious countryside from around Moniack Mhor, Scotland’s Creative Writing Centre, and Abriachan Forest. This celebratory day will conclude in the evening with a buffet and the Creativity & Care tutor and participant house band singing original newly recorded songs.

Exhibitions open 12 noon – 8pm, and anyone interested in attending can view the programme and sign up at www.moniackmhor.org.uk/creativity-and-care-festival

Creativity and Care has been a three-year project led by Moniack Mhor in partnership with Abriachan Forest, Calman Trust, and Articulate, with support from the Life Changes Trust. Tasters, workshops and residentials were co-created by a steering group of care-experienced young people, called Mhor Creative, to get deeper into the art of writing.

The project also delivered a discretionary fund where applicants from across Scotland applied for individual grants to be tutored, develop their own form of creativity and go on to study further, create their own business, or explore something new. Mhor Creative was integral to the decision-making process of this fund and have inspired many of their peers from all over Scotland.
