Community Groups Invited to Apply for North Highland Initiative Grants
Community groups urged to apply for grants of up to £2,000 to support local infrastructure, energy efficiency, wellbeing projects and community resilience initiatives across the North Highlands.
Community organisations across the North Highlands are being encouraged to apply for funding through the North Highland Initiative’s Community Infrastructure Support Programme (CISP), which continues to provide practical support for local projects that strengthen communities, improve facilities and build resilience.
Originally established in 2020 to help community-led initiatives respond to the challenges of the pandemic, the programme has evolved into an important source of funding for local groups working to enhance community infrastructure and support sustainable development across the region. Today, the fund helps communities deliver projects that benefit both residents and visitors while creating stronger, more resilient places to live and work.
The programme offers grants of up to £2,000 for projects that meet one or more key priorities. These include improvements to community infrastructure, environmental enhancements, volunteer development, youth initiatives, health and wellbeing projects, and activities that support economic resilience and community self-sufficiency. Potential projects could range from new signage and visitor information, path creation and public seating, to community gardens, woodland improvements, sports and play facilities, or training opportunities for volunteers. Funding is also available for initiatives focused on food security, cost-of-living support, education and life skills for young people, and community-led health and wellbeing services.
A strong focus is also placed on energy efficiency and community resilience. Grants can support the installation of more efficient heating and insulation in community buildings, the purchase of energy-saving equipment, professional advice on energy reduction measures, and projects that help communities better understand and access energy improvement schemes. In addition, the programme supports the development of community facilities. Funding can help organisations make more creative use of village halls and community buildings, develop multi-purpose community hubs, or secure seed funding that enables larger projects to get off the ground. Importantly, the North Highland Initiative welcomes innovative ideas that may not fall neatly within the listed categories. Applicants with projects that address a genuine local need and contribute to community infrastructure are encouraged to outline their proposal, as all eligible applications will be considered.
The programme is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and reflects a shared commitment to helping communities thrive through locally driven solutions and investment in grassroots projects. Community groups, charities, volunteer organisations and other eligible local bodies with a project idea are encouraged to submit an application and take advantage of this funding opportunity.
