The programme aims to strengthen the community and shared transport sector by funding organisations that help disabled people access safe, affordable and reliable transport. This includes community transport operators, local charities, social enterprises and other groups working to reduce isolation, improve mobility and support independent living.
Rural and island communities frequently face limited public transport options, long travel distances and higher costs — all of which can disproportionately affect disabled people. The Motability Foundation emphasises that applications from these areas are especially welcome, recognising the essential role local organisations play in keeping people connected to services, employment and social opportunities.
Funding is available for projects that build long‑term resilience, improve service quality, expand capacity or strengthen organisational sustainability. This may include developing new transport services, upgrading vehicles, investing in staff and volunteer training, improving governance, or piloting innovative approaches to community mobility.
The grant programme forms part of the Foundation’s wider mission to ensure disabled people have the freedom and confidence to travel. By supporting organisations at the heart of community transport, the fund aims to create a stronger, more reliable sector that can meet growing demand and adapt to future challenges.
With the application deadline 30th January, organisations are encouraged to submit their proposals now to ensure they have opportunity to demonstrate need, impact and alignment with the programme’s aims.
