Funding streams for community groups announced

An array of funds across Scotland are now available to community groups.

Several organisations have recently announced funding support for a range of initiatives relevant to rural and island Scotland. 

These range from supporting young people through capacity-building support to small youth organisations to support for communities during prolonged power interruptions caused by storms.

The UK Youth Fund is offering unrestricted grants and development support to small youth organisations working with young people in certain eligible areas across Scotland and the rest of the UK.

The fund is open to organisations with an annual turnover of less than £500,000 that are delivering services for young people. Support aims to help organisations build resilience, strengthen delivery and increase long-term impact.

Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks Powering Communities to Net Zero fund

SSE have an array of funds to help communities during​ prolonged power interruptions caused by storms, aids their ability​ to cope in severe weather, and also supports​ the adoption of new low-carbon technologies.

  • Our Powering Communities to Net Zero fund helps communities in central southern England and the north of Scotland become more resilient in the face of our increasingly-volatile climate. It also supports the adoption of low-carbon technologies to help decarbonise communities.
  • Low-carbon technology (LCT) fund helps support the purchase and adoption of new low-carbon technologies like heat pumps and solar panels – and energy-saving measures when combined with LCT installations – by non-profit organisation
  • Physical and environmental resilience fund​ provides grants to support communities during prolonged power interruptions caused by storms, and to aid their ability to cope in periods of severe weather.

Moray Climate Action Network (CAN) Small Grants Fund – Opening Soon

Moray CAN is a network of groups, organisations, and individuals working together to tackle climate change in Moray.

Their aim is to inspire, engage and support Moray communities to take tangible steps towards a more sustainable future.

The Moray CAN Small Grants Fund opens on Monday 4 May and closes on Monday 15 June at 5pm.

This offers small grants to support local action on climate and nature across Moray.

  • Individuals: can apply for up to £200

  • Community groups and organisations: up to £2,000

Moray CAN welcome applications from both new and established groups, as well as individuals with ideas to support climate action, nature restoration and stronger local communities. Full guidance and application form will be available when the fund is officially open.
