Good Food Nation Proposed National Plan consultation

The Proposed National Good Food Nation Plan consultation will close on 15 August

There is still time to take part in the Proposed National Good Food Nation Plan consultation!

The Scottish Parliament’s Health, Social Care and Sport Committee and Local Government, Housing and Planning Committee plan to undertake scrutiny of the Proposed National Good Food Nation Plan in September 2025.

To help the committee undertake this work, a public consultation was launched in June.

The Proposed National Plan was laid in the Scottish Parliament by the Scottish Government on 27 June 2025 and before finalising the Plan, the government is required to consider:

  • any representations about the proposed plan that are made to it,
  • any resolution relating to the proposed plan passed by the Parliament, and
  • any report relating to the proposed plan published by any committee of the Parliament

Before taking oral evidence on the Plan, the Health, Social Care and Sport Committee, and Local Government, Housing and Planning Committee are seeking views on its contents as they relate to their respective remits and interests.

The national Good Food Nation Plan sets out six over-arching Outcomes for a Good Food Nation; the range of targets and indicators that will be used to gauge progress towards achieving them; and details of a wide range of food-related policies and initiatives from across the Scottish Government.

Mairi Gougeon MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, Land Reform and Islands said:

“Producing food is at the heart of our coastal and rural communities, providing jobs, community and a way of life. Our fantastic food industry provides employment from the local farmers’ market to the export of Scotland’s finest produce across the globe. Food enables a healthy population to enjoy life to its fullest. Our establishment of the Good Food Nation body of work recognises this.

“This first Good Food Nation Plan represents how the Scottish Government intends to work collectively together with the supply chain and with all parts of society in meeting our Good Food Nation ambitions.”
