Islands Resilience Fund Opens to Support Island Businesses
Funding available to help island enterprises navigate connectivity disruption and build long-term resilience.
Businesses across Scotland’s islands affected by transport and ferry disruption are being encouraged to explore support through Highlands and Islands Enterprise’s (HIE) Islands Resilience Fund.
The initiative aims to help island enterprises strengthen resilience, manage operational challenges and continue contributing to local economies.
The fund forms part of a wider Scottish Government commitment to support island communities and businesses facing unique geographic and connectivity challenges. For 2026-27, £3 million has been allocated through the first phase of the Islands Resilience Fund, building on previous support delivered to island businesses.
Managed by HIE, the programme provides targeted assistance for eligible businesses and organisations experiencing the impacts of disruption, helping them adapt, remain competitive and safeguard local employment. Funding awards are expected to vary depending on demand and business size, with grants anticipated to range from £3,000 to £35,000 for eligible applicants.
Island businesses are vital to local economies, supporting jobs, sustaining communities and underpinning key sectors including tourism, food production and haulage. The Islands Resilience Fund aims to strengthen the resilience of SMEs, social enterprises and community organisations on targeted islands that have experienced prolonged disruption to ferry services from mainland Scotland. By helping organisations manage additional costs and operational challenges linked to transport and connectivity issues, the fund seeks to safeguard economic activity and support long-term community sustainability.
