The fund aims to support communities to plan, design and prepare projects that will improve biodiversity, restore habitats and strengthen local ecosystems.
The programme is open to not-for-profit, community-led organisations based in Scotland with an annual income of less than £200,000. Funding is available to help groups develop projects focused on themes such as habitat and species restoration, freshwater and wetland recovery, urban nature, coastal and marine conservation, connecting nature corridors, and tackling invasive non-native species.
Successful applicants can receive up to £13,500 to support project development activities, alongside up to £1,500 of professional fundraising support to help secure future investment and move projects into delivery. Funding can be used for specialist advice, community engagement, staffing and core project costs.
Unlike many funding programmes, the Neighbourhood Ecosystem Fund operates on a rolling basis, meaning groups can apply at any time through a straightforward two-stage process. Applications begin with a short Expression of Interest form, with feedback typically provided within two to three weeks.
If your organisation has an idea that could help restore local habitats, create new opportunities for wildlife, or enhance nature in your community, now is the perfect time to apply.
