Open Gate Festival returns!

The Open Gate Festival returns to Perthshire this week.

Aberfeldy town centre

Healthiest Town Aberfeldy is a community-driven initiative dedicated to improving physical, mental, social and environmental wellbeing for everyone in Aberfeldy.

Inspired by the Blue Zones approach, they aim to create a place where it’s easy for everyone to live a healthy, fulfilling life. The group comprises of local health professionals in Aberfeldy.

As part of their programme of work, Healthiest Town are taking part in the Open Gate Festival which runs from 29 August to 7 September.

With lots of open gardens and farms, workshops, talks and events running throughout the festival period it promises to be a very special opportunity to highlight the benefits of healthy life choices.

As well as many gardens and farms being open for people to visit, and a host of practical workshops on growing, foraging and producing food, the team have organised a range of talks, films and events.

They will also be re-launching the Aberfeldy Manifesto, written in 1974, at the Just One Ingredient event, looking at how people can use this call to action to help eat better, improve their health and reduce negative climate impacts.

There will be a community feast to celebrate the community and local produce.  All of the local schools are involved in the Open Gate Festival, and the team are also spreading the Open Gate Festival further with events and activities in other areas around Highland Perthshire – Crieff and Comrie, Dunkeld and Birnam, and Pitlochry.
