Opening doors to opportunity on Orkney
A free careers fair connecting people across Orkney with employers, training, education and future opportunities.
The future workforce of Orkney will take centre stage on Thursday 1 October when the fourth Orkney Careers Fair arrives at the Pickaquoy Centre in Kirkwall.
Organised by Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) Orkney in partnership with Skills Development Scotland, the free event will bring together almost 70 exhibitors from across education, training, employability and business. From school pupils exploring their next steps to adults considering a career change, the fair is designed to help people discover the opportunities available both locally and beyond.
Taking place from 9.30am to 6pm in the Arena at the Pickaquoy Centre, the event offers a unique opportunity to speak directly with employers, colleges, universities, training providers and support organisations. Attendees will be able to learn about career pathways, skills development, apprenticeships, vocational training and further education options, all under one roof.
For young people, the fair provides a chance to explore future possibilities and gain valuable insight into the world of work. For businesses and organisations, it is an opportunity to showcase the wide range of careers available across Orkney and help inspire the next generation of talent.
The event is not solely aimed at school leavers. Whether someone is returning to work following a career break, looking to retrain, considering a change of direction, or simply exploring what opportunities are available, the fair aims to provide information, guidance and inspiration.
As DYW Orkney explains:

Careers advisers from Skills Development Scotland will also be on hand throughout the day to provide impartial advice and support, helping visitors understand the routes available to them, including employment, training, apprenticeships and volunteering.
The careers fair reflects the importance of investing in local people and connecting them with opportunities that support thriving communities and a resilient rural economy. By bringing together employers, educators and support organisations, the event helps strengthen the links between learning and employment while showcasing the wide variety of careers that can be pursued from island and rural communities.
With almost 70 exhibitors expected and hundreds of visitors anticipated throughout the day, the Orkney Careers Fair continues to grow as one of the islands’ key events for careers inspiration, skills development and workforce growth.
Attendance is free and open to school pupils, parents and carers, teachers, students and members of the public.
