Representing Scotland’s leadership as President of Regions4 and European Co-Chair of the Under2 Coalition, Ms Martin is participating in high-level ministerial sessions and roundtables aimed at strengthening multi-level governance and preparing for COP30. Her engagements include the launch of a case study on the Scottish Climate Intelligence Service, showcasing Scotland’s pioneering work in climate resilience and emissions reduction.
In a powerful demonstration of climate justice, the Scottish Government has announced £165,000 in funding for the Green Generation Initiative’s Youth Accelerator Programme, led by Kenyan climate activist Elizabeth Wathuti. The initiative will mentor and upskill 25 emerging African climate leaders through a year-long fellowship, helping them drive local climate solutions across the continent.
Ms Martin emphasized the importance of youth activism, stating,
“Young people’s activism has challenged governments around the world to go further and faster on climate action… Now, more than ever, we have a responsibility to ensure that young people feel valued, empowered and heard”.
This dual approach—strengthening international networks and investing in youth-led climate leadership—underscores Scotland’s commitment to a just transition and inclusive climate action, ensuring that those most affected by climate change are central to shaping its solutions.
