The campaign, led by Keep Scotland Beautiful, continues to grow in scale and impact, uniting volunteers of all ages in a shared mission to tackle litter and protect local environments.
The most recent Spring Clean Scotland report highlights just how powerful this national movement has become. In 2025, more than 34,000 volunteers took part across all 32 local authorities, contributing over 68,000 hours of community action. Together, they organised 2,763 clean‑up events and removed an estimated 331 tonnes of litter from streets, parks, beaches and green spaces. These figures reflect not only the scale of Scotland’s litter challenge but also the determination of communities to take positive, practical action.
A striking feature of the campaign is the involvement of young people. Schools and youth groups made up more than half of all volunteers in 2025, demonstrating a growing commitment among children and young adults to care for their local environment. Businesses, local authorities and community organisations also played a major role, offering resources, staff time and logistical support to help events run smoothly.

The 2026 campaign will once again span six weeks, giving individuals and groups plenty of time to plan activities that suit their communities. Whether it’s a small neighbourhood litter pick, a school‑led clean‑up, or a large‑scale community event, the campaign encourages everyone to get involved in whatever way works for them. Keep Scotland Beautiful provides guidance, promotional materials and access to the Clean Up Scotland map, where volunteers can register events or join existing ones.
Beyond the environmental benefits, the campaign has a strong social impact. Volunteers consistently report feeling more connected to their communities and more empowered to make a difference. Many groups use the campaign as an opportunity to bring people together, strengthen local pride and highlight the importance of shared responsibility for public spaces.
As preparations begin for 2026, Keep Scotland Beautiful is encouraging communities, schools, businesses and individuals across the country to save the date and start planning how they’ll take part. With the campaign running from 13 March to 24 April, now is the perfect moment to gather your group, think about the places that matter to you and get ready to play your part. By joining in, you’ll help keep Scotland beautiful and strengthen a growing national movement that’s making a real difference.
