A short online survey is being carried out on what the Crofting Connections project should look like after March 2017.

Crofting Connections works with schools and communities across the crofting counties to introduce crofting past, present and future into the curriculum. It encourages teachers and pupils to work with their local community to encourage children and young people to help build a sustainable future for the Highlands and Islands.

Are you aged between 18 and 25 and passionate about the future of agriculture?

Entries are now open to participate in the third Bayer Youth Ag-Summit to be held in October 2017 in Brussels. 

In partnership with two Belgian Young Farmers Associations, Groene Kring and Federation des Jeunes Agriculteurs, next year’s week-long conference will bring together around 100 young people to discuss contemporary issues in agriculture, the environment and international development.

The RSABI Great Glen Challenge has raised over £50,000 for the rural charity.

Twenty-three teams of four took part in this year's Great Glen Challenge - cycling, kayaking, walking and running 46km from Fort Augustus to Fort William. The event raised £50,146, exceeding the fundraising target for another year.

Watson Seeds from East Lothian were crowned winners with two teams from CKD Galbraith following closely behind in second and third position.

Scottish Ministers are looking to make two Commissioner appointments to the Crofting Commission. 

The Crofting Commission is a Non-Departmental Public Body (NDPB) which operates on a day-to-day basis independently of the government, but for which Scottish Ministers are ultimately responsible.

The Commission comprises six Crofting Commissioners elected from geographic areas in the crofting counties, and three Commissioners appointed by the Scottish Government.

Soil Association Scotland are holding a series of seminars in coming weeks with renowned soil expert Jo Scamell, from Ground Level Nutrition Ltd.

The events are free for farmers and land managers and will offer practical advice on improving efficiencies and increasing farm profitability.

The dates and venues for the seminars are:

  • Inverurie - 29 September
  • Dumfries - 5 October
  • South Queensferry - 6 October
