A pilot project on exchange programmes for young farmers across Europe has published its report.

The report from the 'Exchange programmes for young farmers' project highlights the needs of young farmers, provided an overview of exchange schemes for young farmers and a guide for successful exchange schemes.

Future Farming for Success Event

NFU Scotland are inviting young farmers to a free event which will focus on the future of young farmers in Dumfries and Galloway.

The event at Laggan Outdoor, Gatehouse of Fleet on 18 May will centre on the question: If the average age of a farmer in Dumfries and Galloway was 35, would things be different?

Gary Mitchell, Regional Chairman for Dumfries and Galloway will chair the event, which will explore the future of the younger farmer and next generation in the region whilst sharing opinions, ideas and ambitions.

The Beef Efficiency Scheme is currently open for applications.

This five-year programme is open to farmers and crofters to help improve the efficiency and genetic value of Scotland’s suckler beef herd. 

The window for applications has now been extended until 15 June 2016. The deadline was originally Tuesday 31 May 2016.

The Beef Efficiency Scheme is part of the Scottish Rural Development Programme.

Farming Connect, which delivers the knowledge transfer, innovation and advisory services of the Rural Development Programme in Wales is currently developing a new Management Exchange programme for farmers and foresters in Wales.
