A tiny island on the west coast, the Isle of Gigha is the most southerly Hebridean island, and despite being all of seven miles long and one mile wide, it packs a punch in community-led environmental initiatives from removing tonnes of marine litter each winter, to weekly conservation volunteering, rivalling the biggest and very best environmental efforts anywhere.
The Assynt Elm Project is dedicated to protecting and preserving the trees. Thanks to support from Highland and Islands Conservancy, the project has been able to run a series of educational events to raise awareness and inspire community action. The trip, developed and hosted by Scottish Agritourism, provided a valuable opportunity to gain inspiration, exchange ideas, and connect with business owners.
